“DREAMLAND AWAITS”
A portal into the subconscious opens this April in downtown Los Angeles, as Corey Helford Gallery unveils Dreamland Awaits — a sweeping, international group exhibition curated by the revered Beautiful Bizarre Magazine. This marks the 19th globally curated exhibition by the magazine and its second creative partnership with CHG following the success of Secret Longings in 2023. With over 100 boundary-pushing contemporary artists on display, Dreamland Awaits invites viewers to surrender to the surreal, the symbolic, and the subliminal.
Curated by Beautiful Bizarre’s Editor-in-Chief Danijela Krha Purssey, the show traverses the liminal terrain of imagination: those fragile moments on the edge of sleep where thought transforms, where pain meets pleasure, and where artistry births from the twilight of dreams. “Artists are able to bring their dreamlands into the physical realm through their work,” says Purssey, “giving the viewer a precious insight into the subconscious mind of the creative spirit.”
From haunting figurative work to fantastical creatures sculpted in porcelain, the exhibition blurs lines between memory, myth, and metaphor. Names like Adrian Cox, Camilla d’Errico, Hikari Shimoda, Ian Francis, and Sylvia Ji promise a kaleidoscopic visual experience—where whimsical meets eerie, and delicate coexists with dark. The diversity of mediums—paint, sculpture, mixed media—creates a rhythmic pulse throughout the gallery, each piece offering its own intimate mythology.
What makes Dreamland Awaits especially electric is not just the caliber of artists, but the connective thread that weaves through them: a shared willingness to explore the inner world and the many dreamlands that arise from it. In today’s hyper-conscious, overstimulated world, this exhibition feels like an exhale—a return to intuition, imagination, and introspection.
For those who can attend, CHG becomes a dreamscape in itself. For those admiring from afar, the exhibition stands as a reminder that the surreal isn’t always elsewhere—it’s within us, waiting to awaken.
